Hey so I just got offered a f/t summer job at "eminent marketing". they're listed under marketing consultants, but does that mean that they are a legit business that actually helps other smaller companies, or is it just a nice way of saying telemarketers? or do they just take surveys?

No, those companies are way too shady.

Why don't you try and look into the company through their website and history, and then check out rating sites like the Better Business Bureau?

How do they pay you? What does the job involve? Have they given you a clear description of what it involves? What do they say when asked?

There's companies out there (e.g. Vector Marketing) that pay you "per appointment" and you have to set up all the appointments yourself (basically that consists of getting friends and family to agree to watch you demo knives that Vector tries to sell). Don't quit another job to get into something like that, but you could maybe make a bit of extra cash on the side.

If it has anything to do with this I suggest staying well away from it. But they may be entirely different things.

so I'm googling them, and there isn't much... lol that website was for some company in india (whew)
anyways, they're not listed in the bbb, but neither are my current/prev. employers, think they usually just develop files if someone specifically asks them to?
I was told that there were several positions available, but it'd most likely be a job as a customer service rep. so i'm asking them how i'm being paid during my interview...

u guys were right lol. what a sketchbag company, they had the basement suite in a cheap building, and one of the girls that was getting interviewed at the same time got so mad when she heard it was telemarketing/door-to-door.

Good call. It doesn't seem worth the risk.
