Does Taking one course in private school ( advanced functions) matter when applying to university? Do they frown upon that, or give preference to others because of it? Also, do these courses prepare you more for university... or LESS than regular dayschool?

unis don't really care, unless the private school is blacklisted
i would say in general they prepare you less. the workload is a lot less than what you would have in school, and they make everything easier for you. my friend took mhf4u and on his exam he asked his teacher how to solve all the questions.. he couldn't do anything on his own. he's going to nursing at mcmaster. so he's gonna be screwed next year.
a girl i know went to matrix (which is a basement of someone's house) and got a 90% in eng, and got accepted to u of t st g.

there must be GOOD private schools out there that actually teach you something.. i just don't know of any myself.

Let me tell you something about private schools. UBC's Math Dept. does annual studies of how students fared in physics and math courses in BC/Vancouver high schools, and how they fared in 1st year physics and calculus courses. The students with the biggest drop in marks and lowest averages in uni are from some of the "prestigious" private schools downtown with reputation for sending people yearly to Ivy Leagues, even though their HS marks are comparable to that of public kids.

Of course, for at least one school there's various causes behind this trend, but I've promised people not to reveal them...
