"A typical first-year course load is between 30 and 35 credits,
but it will vary from student to student. Read through the
Science programs outlined in the UBC Calendar to determine
which courses you need to take each year in order to complete
your degree in four years. You may elect to take fewer credits
than listed for a first-year program in Winter Session. If you do
so, it will take you more than four years to graduate."

"First-year students may register
for a maximum of 5 courses per term — this does not include
separate 2-credit lab courses."

it depends if you are living at home or on campus...
If living on campus it will be ok if you are a hard worker, otherwise it's just too much.

I only took 10 courses

I came to know yesterday that I got into totem park and I don't want to live there. So I am living at homeee and if it gets really bad in second semester, I wil lnear the university. First sem should be fine coz I managed to take tuesdays off and on thursdays, I only have labs... So it shouldn' t be to bad.

I am taking,

First Semester
Chem121
Eng112
Math101
Bio140
Bio112

Second Semester
Physics 101
Chem123
English111
Bio 121
Math 103

I have made my schedule in such a way that I should be fine commuting coz I don't want to live in totem park...

Ooops I left out BIOL 121 and BIOL 140 from my list.

Our schedule seems pretty similar, except that I have one additional computer science course. Hmm, maybe I should drop ENGL110.

Wow you are going to commute from home? That will be way too demanding. I would rather just take Totem Park.

Well I don't know how you are going to feel about this about I am a kind of a person who doesn't like to party....

I like queit places and that's why applied to Vanier......
I have talked to a bunch of people and they all said that Totem can get pretty baddd....

Plus there are only 5 girls from my school anyways who are living on campus and I was amongst them but now I am not.

All other people are commuting....I managed to get tuesdays off first sem and on thursdays I only have labs....

Second sem-I have to go everyday but I will try to get a dorm only for second semester and then my parents said that if I find it really hard, I can live near the university....

So it should be too bad coz there all like 20 girls froom my school going to UBC and they are commuting tooo

So you applied to Vanier, but they put you in Totem? Wow. That actually makes me a bit worried because I applied to Vanier but didn't get any response yet.
But in the worst case scenario, I would just take Totem over commuting. I live in Surrey too and it's gonna be a long drive every morning if I choose to commute.

My average is like 97% and I got into Totem and although my first choice was Vanier.

It take 80mins on transit for one way....

I am happy that I came to know earliar because otherwise I would have been screwed later because my registration was today morning

I phoned the housing office and they said both Totem AND Vanier are full. But they are expecting cancellations in both houses.

so i guess you were one of the "early ones" who got into Totem `cause from what I know, many people didn't receive housing yet.

I see you are taking the CSP, and choosing the CSO. Usually, when you take the CSO, you drop all of the bio courses, and you have a choice to drop Chem 123 or not. That makes your workload "normal" again.

But the STTs just didn't work out for me.... Which CPSC 111 and 121 sections are you reging in? Lets see if we're in the same class xD
