I just kept pushing for it and making deals with any competition (Ie: VP, or other secondary/tertiary positions).
I had really wanted to go to Princeton so I needed excellent extracurricular/grades, but I unfortunately didn't cut it.

If unable to gain position, make an opportunity for yourself and get people excited about your cause.

Oh yeah, they love DECA, be an executive and it will look very very good on your app.
