Anything we should be aware, or catuious about when we get our first room mate?
Or any bad expirences with room mates or stories which I (and I'm sure many other undergrads) can learn from?
Anything would be greatly appreciated

My friend at Ryerson lives in a suite style apartment with three other guys, and one was anal about the kitchen being kept clean, and my friend and the other guys were a bit more lax, so to drive home his point, the neat freak took all their dishes out of the sink and threw them into the garbage, and then took his own dishes and locked them in his room, so that my friend and the other guys were left with like one bowl, one glass and two spoons to use between them all. Not so much a horror story, but something that would cause me to at least punch my roomie in the face.

My sister had a roomate that... well i dont know if i'm allowed to post it here, but it was really bad and my sister couldnt get in her room when it was happening. Eventually, the roomate got kicked out of the residence and my sister had a double room for the rest of the year. Good or bad deal?

There will be times when you want to kill your roommate. You just need to suck it up sometimes and take a walk.

My roommate would stay up until 5AM or 6AM with her light on writing essays, going in and out of the room, making food at like 4AM. It sucked, but it only happened about 10 times.

I am a super light sleeper so I didn't get any sleep on those nights.

My house mates are pretty chill, but I live with two guys and another girl. The two guys are messy, one in the kitchen and the other in the bathroom. It is disgusting. We are living together next year and I am going to lay down the law.

Three of us smoke weed so it is really nice to smoke inside during the winter, so that's cool. The fourth doesn't care.

That same fourth one is the loudest walker/stair climber I know, so when he comes in or goes out I alway swake up if I am sleeping, so that sucks. And he slams the door.

Nothing too horrifying though.

Well it's half a room mate / residence horror story.

My friend started at Waterloo last year, she was in a double room with another girl. Then I guess there was some over crowding issues frown and another girl was put in their room with them. So there were three girls sharing a double sized room! How pathetic, especially when your paying for residence in the thought that you would only be staying with one other person. Those rooms are small as it is. I guess it got pretty annoying, and her room mates weren't the greatest either. Anyways, mid semester one girl moved out because she couldn't take it. Anyways, this and several other things about Waterloo gave my friend a bad impression and now she's transferring to Laurier - Brantford so she can drive. lol.

This is more of a housemate tale ..
But my friend left her door unlocked and our other friend went into her room and messed it all up - changed her computer desktop background, her msn name, threw her clothes everywhere, turned her posters backwards ...
Anyway, it was suppose to be funny and a joke, and sure they laughed, but it was A LOT to clean up!
So .. lock your friggin door!

You should get a housing questionaire asking you questions like 'are you messy?', 'do you sleep in?', and possibly 'would you like someone in your major?'. I you get asked the last question I would suggest you say 'no', because you will see your class mates every day, and coming home to one of them could jepordize your friendship. this is not always the case. Another benefit of living with someone who is not in your major is that you are exposed to other departments, and people in your school.

My housemates (and I) have become serious slobs. Last year, we had one more roommate than we have now. He was a big slob, lived in our living room, threw his garbage on our living room floor, and just made a big mess everywhere. Rather than us improving him, he brought us down to his level. Although our place isn't as bad now, it is still pretty bad. I know there are six garbage-filled grocery bags on our bathroom floor, someone's underwear (apparently none of ours) shoved to the side of our hallway, a few loaves of moldy bread on our countertop, and a potato plant (some potatoes somehow managed to grow branches in one of our cupboards even though there was nothing else around). My two-year-ago self would not have tolerated the house I am living in now... I just gradually grew accustomed its disgustingness.

WOW, that's definitely gross, coming from someone who rated myself a 4 on the rez application messy scale LOL.

As gross as it is, and as annoying as it is for me, I can't help but laugh about it sometimes. Finding the potato plant in one of our rarely used cupboards was definitely the crown achievement. In fact, we have kept it there just as a souvenir.

My room mate has a cat that pees all over the place and scratches the walls (horrible sound). I would definitely do a meet and greet with my next potential room mate's pets if they have any.
Same room mate keeps putting off paying their share of utilities saying that they won't cut off the heat in the winter (um, it's April now). They make food, leave dirty dishes/counter and then go away for the weekend. Keep in mind that sometimes when they go away, the cat has no food in the house or litter so I've got a moral debate over whether to starve the peeing machine or not. UGH.
We were good friends before and living together's almost ruined it. I think we'll be good once we get new roommate's in July.

I live with six boys who all seem to have a foot odour problem. But as smelly as the house gets they are all great guys and I cannot complain about them much more than that. We all look out for eachother. It has proven to be much better than living with girls which I have doen in the past. Too much drama and I am not really up for that.

Wooooow! Haha, last year in art we did some still life with onions and garlic and ginger, and the onions/garlic started sprouting... so we kept it as the class plant =)

Btw amalphia, for this cat situation, was it in dorm or off campus house?
