Hey, I don't live in Canada so I'll be in residence for sure. I'm trying to chose between Life Sci at McMaster and Life Sci at U of T. I got accepted into Trinity. You guys seem to love U of T. Would anyone mind telling me why you'd choose U of T over McMaster? People say that if you're planning for MedSchool you might as well forget your social life, but I'd like to hang on to it for a while.. Is it more fun at either University? And would anyone happen to know which school gives you a better shot at MedSchool later? Thanks

Actually, if you want to increase your chanes of getting into med school overall, Mac would be a better choince since it will be easier to get a better GPA (which you so desperately need to med school) than at UT.

I keep hearing that. That its insanely difficult to keep up a good gpa at U of T. Is it really? I mean I was talking to a Mac student and she told me that the courses aren't that different at all. Also I heard that in the end it doesn't really make a difference where you do undergrad as long as you keep your grades up. So say if I DID choose Mac over U of T, I know that U of T is the more prestigious school and its more recognized. So would it make that much of a difference? Does it count for more if you graduate from either school?

Well I can't tell you from personal experience since I'm still in high school but I've talked to a lot of my friends and my guidance counsellar did some research for me and found out that it is harder to get a stellar GPA at UTSG than it is Mac... like the mark you get in UT for certain amount of effort, you would get a higher mark at mac... that doesn't mean mac is easy, it's just easier. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to UT, it's a great school (since I'm going there ) but just make sure you know what you're getting into. As for reputation, at the undergrad level it doesn't matter. I mean of course you wanna have back-ups in case med school doesn't work out or if you decide to do something entirely different but both Mac and UofT are prestigious as far as Canada is concerned. Of course, as you go international, UT becomes more recognized than Mac but reputation isn't everything. So, if you wanna go to Mac, don't be afraid to choose it just because of the rep. My friends there say it's a great school and has a definite community feel.

From what I've heard from friends, It's not amazing but it's not half-bad. Basically tons of asians running around so If you look from afar it seems like an all-asian school. Try to make as many friends as possible and learn some chinese swear words. UTSG Life Science 12'

Try to make as many friends as possible and learn some chinese swear words. I wouldn't necessarily say that. Especially when commerce and arts rolls around, it's a pretty diverse group. I'm not sure what all the Frosh week's are like but engineering is freakin amazing and by far the best on campus... don't worry you'll see us around.. and don't even bother trying to steal the hardhats, we WILL beat you down
