I have done the calculator and am now filling in the application (using 2007/2008 paper app as a guide before going online) - the way income is treated is different between the calculator and the application form - does anybody know how accurate the online calculator is?

It's approximate. It's very close to what you'll be receiving (when comparing the two they're off by a few hundred dollars) but won't be exact. 'Tis why they call it an estimate smile

on the osap online estimator calculator thing i put in a science program at UWO (two terms, so sept-april for next year) and it estimated the tuition at 3700...it's definitely higher than that

what income threshold do you have to be to receive grants (not loans)?

dont know the income, but any money over 7000 (up to 11 000) is a grant. so im guessing fairly low.

oh. well what about bursaries? i clicked on one of the things they had (ontario or millennium access something something) and for a family of 3 children, the net parental income threshold was something like 82 000 (and that doesn't take into account the fact that i'm not the only dependent child in university). i'm pretty sure our income is below that. not by much, but still enough to qualify me

*Up to 11 900

To put in perspective, I will be making between 4k and 6k this summer, my parents are separated and my mom makes approximately 45k (gross). I will get $11 900 but I was also testing the numbers and if she made up to 60k I would still get $11 900.

my parents combined make probably about 65-70 000 (not exactly sure, i'll have to double check...oh and that's gross, definitely not net); there are three children, two of which will be attending university. so i should be receiving something right?

Based on parental income, number of siblings, etc. you'd likely qualify for the full loan amount unless you've got a big pile of savings or will be making a lot this summer; and you'd have to have a heck of a lot of savings / summer earnings etc. to not get anything.

no, i don't have any of those (or an RESP) or anything. i'm looking for summer employment but i'm already spending a good chunk volunteering so maybe i'll have saved something like 500 dollars by the end of it. I did get the millennium though, does that count as income?

I'm still really surprised i got no bursaries from UW

I think i just did something stupid

On the osap application, it asks you for your total expected income from september 08 to april 09

i guess i was dumb during the application process. and i assumed i would get a part time job = 2500 over 8 months
will this 'significantly' affect how much Osap i eventually get in the end?
At what monetary threshold do you have to be in terms of savings, to have your osap amount reduced?

the problem is i'm not even sure if i 'can' work, with the course-load and all.
I just want peace of mind in the end. anyone know what can be done?

The Millenium Award is different from the millenium award right? I wasn't sure but I put it in my application anyway.

the award you're talking about is the excellence award. the one they're talking about is based on financial need i think
