Whats your thoughts on faculty based floors, such as a "science" or "social science" floor where everyone belongs to the same program. Do you think it is a good idea to sign up to be on one of these floors? Some pros i see is that it will be quite during study time and there will always be someone to talk to about coursework. An obvious con is basically you will only meet people within your program.
Anyways, what do you all think?

another bad thing might be your roomie. if they're not doing so well and are in the same program as you, chances might be that they'll want to mooch. and if you've got to face that every day it'll get frustrating

answers, help with assignments, etc. not that you'd mind helping people but if it's a really one-way relationship it would suck. besides, i'd like to room with someone completely different than me--broaden the social network you've got

I'd disagree. I think rooming with someone in the same program as you would be an advantage. Imagine being on the other side of that one-way relationship? When it comes to studying, as long as I get along with I roommate, I'd be happy to have someone in the same program, we'll push each other to do the best we can.

I've already decided to room with someone in the same program - the descision now is should we live on the faculty floor as well.

You have no idea what a good idea this is. With at least 10-12 people on each floor, it's a good chance all your abilities will be complementary, to everyone's benefit.

I'm still torn between the leadership and development floor or the science floor....so many choices...

I lived on a faculty based floor this year and absolutely loved it. When I first got this floor I was crazily upset, I was worried about the competition, only meeting people in my program, etc. But every time an assignment, mid term or exam came EVERYONE studied together. This came in handy especially when take home midterms were assigned ;). I didn't feel any competition at all (I heard for other faculty-based floors that wasn't the case though). But then again the people on my floor were extremely friendly and easygoing. Also, a majority of my friends do come from my faculty .. but I LOVE my faculty to death so that didn't bother me. Plus, I made a lot of friends in different programs by visiting different floors, etc. The moral of the story, living on a faculty based floor was what worked for me and it's not as intense or competitive as it may sound
