Hi Guys! (and Ladies!)
For those of you that attend a college or university, what is the best way to record and use your time management skills in relation to having a job while in school? I am thinking of getting one, but I'm not sure what is the best idea as I don't want to fall behind.
What works for you? What doesn't?

I've been working P/T now during school for the past two years, and while it can sometimes be a struggle you can make it work. It kinda depends what your major is. As a biology major with labs (which are like taking a second course) it was really hard in the beginning compared to my friends in business or arts who didn't have labs so they had more time to fit work in. If you really want to work you may try organizing your schedule to minimize breaks between classes or putting all your classes on a MWF or TR--this may come at the price of getting less desireable profs though. I've got two P/T jobs right now and I'm lucky enough that they let me take time off or make up shifts later if I have a school-heavy week with tests.

first year just go to school and the feel for your classes and homework load. you can always apply for a job half way through a semester and alot of on campus jobs work around your schedules and involve office jobs or store jobs that on down times and leave you some extra homework time while getting paid! a friend of mine worked at a very dead clothing store during school, she only worked two days a week and because it was so dead, so was able to bring her lap top in and work on homework when ever there was no one in the store. it worked out great. but i suggest you wait it out for a while and see where you stand first because you go ahead and take a job when you dont even know what your schedule and homework situation is like.

Something that worked out for me in high school (i know, i know, not nearly the homework load as there is in university) was taking grade 9 off to get the hang of things and then getting a pt job in grade 10. In unversity I'm planning on taking a few months without a job to test the waters and get a job in January after Christmas vacation.

Yeah, I would definitely take your first year to get used to University, and not just the homework load, but, especially if you're moving there, the new people, atmosphere, etc. Once you have got that under control, then you should see if having a part time job would be a good thing or not.

I may either go for: -Campus Job: teh awesum, I would jump on this first since I have no transportation other than busing when I go to Ottawa -Staples: since I've been working there 9 months already.. and there is a Staples near my university -Bluenotes: We'll see about this, since I don't have a summer job there YET, but it's a near certainty
