I'm considering going there. Still, the environment of the school is pretty important.
ie. I'd like very much to avoid going to a school full of uptight, snobby rich people, which I've been led to believe Queens has.

I've heard everyone who goes there is pretty white. My friend told me every Asian she's met at Queens has been ashamed of their culture.

There are too many FOB Asians from international schools.
Well, maybe not too many, but the ones that take over the Mac-Corry cafeteria are the really annoying ones.

It'd be pretty hard for Queen's to recruit 4,000 "uptight, snobby rich people" every year and exclude everyone else from admission. There are those kind of people everywhere.

it really depends on where you spend your time/what major you're in too i think. i'd say there are less than 10% black/brown people, more than 5% other (Including mixed ethnicity). Anywhere between 5 and 25% east asian depending on your discipline, not distinguishing between "fob" and "white asian". because clearly, these two categories are mutually exclusive.

gt5hz wrote:uptight, snobby rich people Many private schools are pretty much feeder schools for Queen's, so this may be why you've heard this? In any case, if someone who is "rich" (I'm putting this in quotations because, well, we all come from different backgrounds...) has to settle for Queen's, they probably have no right to be uptight or snobby.

That being said, many people who go to Queen's are horrendously obnoxious and gloat about their school for no reason whatsoever.
Like, congratulations! You managed to maintain a 90% average in six courses and you wrote a short essay about yourself. Aren't you a star?!

Yes, I chose it because it was ironic. No worries, you're totally an intellectual with your use of onomatopoeia. Ooooooooooosh

I find this rings quite true, and not only about Queen's but about all 'top' universities. If somebody goes to a top university, they could very well be less intelligent as someone who goes to a 'lesser' University. Sometimes, the only difference is that the 'lesser' students didn't have the money. With a 95+% and above average extracurriculars, I considered going to U of Manitoba because I could save my parents mounds of cash. Would that have really made me 'less' than a Queen's student with a 80% high school average who's parents could afford the full ride? Not at all. UWO Social Science 2014
