If I go to McGill, I'm just going to list all the Upper Residences (starting with Molson) first. After that... I dunno.

I haven't seen them yet, but from my research I'm thinking 1. Sherbrooke 2. Douglas 3. New 4. RVC But if you get the Major entrance scholarship, do you get your first choice even if you got the smallest scholarship (don't care, I'm still happy ) McGill Science 2014

I would like to stay in one of the newer residences as well, but 13,000 is quite a bit too much to pay for residence... haha. I think I am either going to do Douglas or RVC ( My friend that is at McGill right now says that RVC will be the best next year, It has a brand new caf, it is right across from all the buildings, and he says it has the best study rooms). Are they all fairly close to a gym?

Upper rez is close the gym. All the others are farther away. There's a map on McGill's website that shows all the buildings, and another that shows all the residences.

Trust me, the upper rez is a jerk to walk to because you have to climb a hill/mountain every time. It gets worse in the winter because the roads are covered with snow, slush, and ice. McGill has addressed the problem by building a clinic below the hill, at least I think that's why it is there...
ok here's my opinion on some of the rez at mcgill:
sherbrooke -big rooms, request a large double if possible -nice common rooms every 2 floors -not a lot of ppl -3rd floor party every friday and saturday -new, but crapty caf, chefs with poor hygiene -rez president is a jerk, maybe that'll change next year -rooms facing the sherbrooke street is noisy as hell
new rez -omg delicious caf food -a lot of ppl, lots of parties -many asians, especially koreans -you can get a single room if you're lucky, from what i know a lot of my friends got one without a scholarship
royal victoria's secret -small, quiet (that'll change once its coed) -beside campus -new caf, good food from what i heard
upper rez -lolz at you if you get a basement -good if you like climbing mountains everyday, especially in the winter -crazy parties -caf is ok... -rooms are tiny

Ok Kiddies, you want the DL on which McGill Rez is the best?
Go to YouTube and search: "Solin Hall: A New Soul"
Then get back to me.

The hill to Upper Rez is INSANE. I would much rather live in new than upper rez (even though Douglas is REALLY NICE!). The way to New is nice and flat and there are sidewalks all the way up. The road to upper rez looks kind of isolated, but there are tons of cars because it's where the hospital parking is. So it's kind of weird to walk up. Plus, BMH, other than the view, doesn't look so great.
For me, it's 1) Carrefour 2) New 3) RVC 4) Douglas

Hi, do I need to practise my French if I want to search for a place near McGill? I'm from BC and French is mandatory up to grade 7 here.
Also, I heard that everyone speaks French at McGill (and speaks English only if spoken to in English). Is it true?

McGill is an ENGLISH school. Classes are taught in ENGLISH. Virtually all the students speak ENGLISH (although not all are native speakers). There is another ENGLISH school (Concordia) right down the street.
You do not need to know french to find an apartment, especially one close to the school.

In case you guys didn't notice, it seems that some residences have suddenly become a few thousand dollars cheaper. http://www.mcgill.ca/residences/undergraduate/fees/You'll notice that these prices do not include a meal plan, but a full, two semester meal plan only costs ~$3900 so these prices are still quite cheap compared to what they used to be. ZOMFG THIS IS AWESOME! I was actually considering refusing McGill for UofT because of the insane residence prices. When did this list of fees go up? EFF YEAH! My choices Greenbriar -> Molson -> Solin -> Everything Else. WAIT I CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD NU REZ NOW WHOOT WHOOT Edit: It's just the Uppers and the New Rez that has reduced in price; the rest are the same.

Meal plans are still mandatory (stupid), just billed separately.

Yes, but meal plans are only ~$4000, which still seems less than it was before. Unless my memory is failing me and it's still roughly the same. Plus, now it shows separate prices for New Rez Single and Double, never did that before. (Not a big deal really)
