Hello, so I have been accepted to UOttawa and I am going to be living with my brother downtown. The apartment is about a 10-15 min walk from parliament and about 20 from UOttawa. My question is will I be missing out on alot of things that somone living in res might enjoy? Or do have a really good thing going on (living with Bro is free because he is awsome and gets payed alot), I cant imagine this 20 min commute being so terrible, just I feel like I may be missing out on a once in a life time opportunity.

It depends on what you are looking for specifically. I think living with your brother won't make much of a difference with your social life by 10 minutes.

Twenty minutes isn't bad at all.
At McGill, one of the residences is 15-20 mins away by Subway, so a 20 min walk isn't bad at all!
Plus, you simply CANNOT beat free accomodation. Think of all the money you'll save.
Graduating debt-free > living in res.
