Well, I applied to OttawaU, and my first impression was that they're genuinely a good school. When I sent in my application though, I'd waited about a week to send my transcript along with it, and they sent a rather cold letter telling me to send it immediately. After they received it, they seemed pretty interested in having me go there, probably because of my marks. Today they just sent me another letter inviting me to this excellence ceremony to be held on campus. My point is I guess, is that marks mean quite a lot to them.

They seem like a good school for many programs... campus is nice, in a great location. The couple of buildings that I've been in were decent, nothing huuuugely exciting (with the exception of Tabaret Hall, which was just fun to explore). I did once eat at a campus dining hall and found it fairly bland, but that was several years ago and I have no concept of what it was like in comparison to other schools.

I've been to Ottawa U. it's an okay school. however their enginnering department isn't that great. they use such old equipment. The campus is decent. if your not going to live downtown be prepared to wait for those long lines at the bus stops. especially in the winter.

That is true, when I came up to their booth on University Fair, i told them my marks and they were quite impressed and they told me that Ill be seeing them in their campus this fall, though I didnt apply to any of their programs. Maybe the french-speaking students would be less hospitable towards students who can't speak french, but I really can't see it being a general/school-wide thing. It's officially an english-speaking school, isn't it?

It's officially an english-speaking school, isn't it? It's officially bilingual. Many courses are offered in english or french and in many classes you can hand in your assignments in either language. Last year when I was choosing where to go it came down to Ottawa and Mac. I really liked the school and they offered me a fantastic scholarship. I did find their spirit and extracurriculars lacking and the residences didn't impress me. Their food is supposed to be bad too. Ottawa is known to have really good science programs and the location is definitely awesome. 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more... That said, Eastern Ontario does have many more French-speakers than the rest of Ontario. I have many friends that go to Ottawa and am also from the area and I can vouch that it's no problem if you speak only English.

Hello there, I'm finishing up my first year at Ottawa U, for Health Science. I'll just sum everything up really quickly =)
Likes/Advantages -met great friends -amazing profs -easy access to the mall, grocery store, bank, (You're downtown!! =D) -good transit system -excellent entrance scholarships -Ottawa is an amazing city! -Hull is right next door =) -The Engineering building, it's brand new! =P -Bioscience Complex - Built in 2004 I believe. AMAZING LABS...each lab station is hooked up to a computer for when you're looking into the microscope..you can see what you're looking at on the computer screen =) -Good for programs such as Biomed, Biochem, Health Science -Good if you're bilingual
Dislikes -You could be discriminated against if you don't speak french -Need to maintain an 8.5 (out of 10) GPA first year to keep your scholarship -Ottawa is EXTREMELY cold in the winter -School spirit could be better. -Living on campus is expensive -Food isn't so great, nor is there much variety...BUT around campus there's lots of great stuff around!
Overall I've enjoyed my year here =)

Well I live by Ottawa U and it's not that bad... some faults- the food isn't great... but hey, you aren't forced to buy it... also some people can be pretty arrogant about the whole french speaking issue but that's what happens when you go to a fully bilingual school. -- but the night life is good because you are right downtown and near all the clubs and restaurants - in the summer it's always busy on thursdays- sundays.

i'm heading there in the fall. every uni has its strong points and its weak points.. i really think it's the experience that you choose to make for yourself that will make a particular university either "good" or "bad". good luck!

in the social area, it's got a great community environment with so many active clubs and organizations. it's also big with Greek life. however, it's got a bit of a rep as a party school, but that doesn't really detur from its strong academic reputation.
