There are very few companies that will go through the trouble of working out a working Visa for you and arranging transportation for your and such for only a 4 months position (the only companies I know of is Cisco, Microsoft, and Real networks that hire from Canadian co-op schools). Companies such as the following: nVidia, Actel, Altera, Xilinx, etc, will very rarely if ever hire a 4 month co-op intern from Canada (they do hire however students on co-op from Stanford, Berkeley, etc)! Actually, I know a couple people working at nVidia right now, for their co-op (one in EE, the other in Comp Eng). I think they actually do hire quite a lot, if I remember correctly. And these two are actually living with few other classmates of theirs who are also working @ Silicon Valley, but I'm not sure if it's the same company or not. Anyway, wrt honours, my understanding is that it just means a 4-year degree (well, with co-op it would be 5 years, but you know what I mean..), as opposed to 3-year general one.

Are they in the stream were they have the back-to-back co-op terms? My brother works for nVidia and in his 3 years of working there has never seen a 4 month co-op student there. Given it's a large company and he obviously doesn't know everyone but it seems to be the general consensus from the managers around. Given as I said before it's not impossible but very rarely will you see it happen.

They are actually only doing 4 months, I believe. But that is weird that your brother's never seen one.. 'cuz when I do a search on Jobmine (our job applying/matching system) I do see quite a few jobs from nVidia each term.

Well I could be wrong with nVidia specifically then, my brother did mention that they do hire A LOT of interns but he had never met any from outside of the region.

you can do 8 month co-ops if u arrange it with the school its not set in stone.
