I have the same worries as you, I applied for a single room but the chances of getting a single room in your first year where I am going is very slim! But you can tell the University who you want to room with if you know someone else going there. So you can get in a double room with someone you know and are friends with, but I hear thats a really bad idea because you will end up hating eachother in the end!

I was just curious, is it better to stay in your hometown for the first couple of years for university? or is it decently affordable to move out?

and i thought it was sort of silly..
yur paying a lot of money to live somewhere, on your own.. and yet you have all these crazy rules.
i just think its dumb..

not to mention.. residence seems to me, like a big sex factory.

My parents were a bit worried about that too when I first started university. They wanted me to put my lap top in the dresser and lock it when I leave. But, I personally trust ppl a bit too much, so I didn't really care about that, lol. If you are really worried, though, you *could* do that, I suppose..

Worst comes to worst, you can switch your roommate/room. But it's university, most people are mature (hopefully) by then. I've never heard any of my friends say anything about their roommates taking their stuffs, except for maybe food in the fridge.

hahah yep..
food and booze is about all that will go missing..
