Alrighty, so the word on the street is that engineers are in a bit of a "different" world from everyone else on campus, so I was wondering whether that was true. Like I've heard about some of their insane pranks, school spirit, and their oddness in general, but are they usually excluded from the normal parties? or do they have their own? or are they study parties?
And I'm trying to decide between Mac and Queens eng, so not to start up some beef, but which has the better program/social life? I've heard some fun stories about the many, many parties at Mac, but I've also heard about the queens school spirit. ...decisions decisions...

haha i'm probably going to Queens Eng. and there better not be "study parties" I'm hoping they are more along the lines of drunken gongshow parties.

Our engineers are... insane and ridiculous. They are always doing outrageous pranks and they act like friggin jerks to everyone. The eng spirit people (the redsuits) are the people who run eng welcome week and do lots of events throughout the year. They make fun of every faculty and totally love it. Our engineers are known for drinking their asses off and partying a lot and having a lot of despite having huge amounts of work to do. Our eng program is quite strong, we have a lot of variety in the types of fields you can choose to specialize in. We also offer a combined degree (i think that's what its called) in management and whatever type of engineering you choose which allows you to take business courses and graduate with a degree that will make you ready to run your own engineering firm or work in a business-y environment with engineering. Eng parties are really wild and they are somewhat separated as a group from other faculties because they are such jerks to everyone. But their parties are legendary so I don't think they mind being excluded The only problem is there are SO few girls in the faculty. I don't know about Queen's but Mac eng is a really strong program and the parties are wild 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more... Really? Are they that big of jerks? I'm not too sure I'd like to be known as a jerk just because I'm in an engineering program...

Are they just kind of arrogant because they work so hard and do so many classes and all their work is so intense? I can understand where that comes from though. Engineers seem to be a certain kind of people. Work hard, and play even harder.

aestas wrote:Really? Are they that big of jerks? I'm not too sure I'd like to be known as a jerk just because I'm in an engineering program... Well it is like the person above me said. They are really arrogant, with good reason too they work the hardest out of any faculty. Don't worry though, people just kinda think of engineers as a collective as jerks. They also do lots of funny stuff (usually my faculty being the victim of their pranks... joy) which can be entertaining. People won't dislike you on the spot if you tell them you're an engineer, its not like it. Its a big running joke, with humanities being the reciever of all the abuse 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more... Queen's Engineering is a reputable program with some great faculty and outstanding students. Their April Fool's pranks are legendary and they run a newspaper called Golden Words which is absolutely hilarious (though, you may not get some of the jokes unless you're a Queen's student). Sometimes Engineering students do get an undeserved reputation for being malicious, which is really unfortunate. If by "study parties" you mean parties at which the "physics" of gravity are examined through the use of a "conoid" containing a hole in the center sometimes called a "funnel" is attached to a tube with one end affixed to someone's mouth and certain liquids poured into the conoid then, sadly, you will find study parties if you're looking for them. I think you'll find such "study" parties at most campuses. On the serious side, though, if you want/need academic help there's definitely a whole bunch of resources and a lot of people eager and willing to give it.
