I took a course on Genocide last semester and since then I've felt compelled to do something about the genocide in Darfur.

For those who don't know, as we worry about college/university applications, current high school drama and the latest fashion trends there are people in Darfur, Sudan who face death everyday for simple things like water, shelter, and food. Several years ago a group called the Janjaweed started attacking the villages of African-Darfurian's. Though the Sudanese government claims they have no ties with the Janjaweed and that the situation in Darfur has been exaggerated there are witnesses and photographs to prove otherwise. Over 2.5 million people have been victimized by these attacks and continue to live in danger. Thousands of people have been killed, thousands of women have been raped, thousands of children have been orphaned.

We can make a difference in the lives of millions. Take time during the commercials of your favorite TV show to write a letter to your local newpaper or a town offical encouraging them to organize events to draw attention to the situation in Dafur, navigate away from facebook for half a minute to sign an online petition at www.savedarfur.org, or instead of spending $50.00 on a name brand T-shirt order a $10 T-shirt online at Save Darfur. It's so easy to make a difference, even for people stuggling to get money for college. Why not go without your cell phone for a month and use the money to make a difference? We have a voice, we have the ability to make a difference, let's do something to help these people!

We're also doing a similar thing in my school but for building a school in China. A friend of mine is leading the Save the Darful committee in my school which I think is also a great prospect. Keep it up! cheers

Waiting on the world to change. ♥
